## About the Founder
Captain Mark Metzger spent 28 years as a Skipper of a U.S. Navy warship. After retiring, he and his wife settled in Campton Hills, Illinois. Born and raised in Geauga County, Ohio — Mark always had sap in his blood. What started as a backyard hobby quickly grew. One gallon became three. Three became eight. Before long, the yearly output exceeded what could be given away. Today, this retired Navy captain is an avid beekeeper, orchardist, and master producer of maple syrup, honey, jams, and jellies. The Captain's Gold is the result of a lifetime of discipline, craft, and love for the land.

It started with just over a gallon of syrup on a fire pit in the backyard.
